About the Clinic The Koşuyolu Pediatric Cardiology Clinic offers diagnostic, therapeutic, and follow-up services for congenital or acquired heart diseases, rhythm and conduction disorders in children. Additionally, it provides evaluation and preparation for heart transplantation in children with cardiomyopathy. The clinic also examines the fetal hearts for congenital heart diseases during pregnancy. Pre- and post-operative evaluations and treatments for patients undergoing heart surgery are carried out. Advanced diagnostic tools are available for suitable patients.
The clinic performs approximately 21,000 examinations and echocardiographic studies annually for infants, children, and adolescents. In the Angiocardiography unit, pediatric heart catheterizations and angiography procedures are performed twice a week, with an annual average of about 300 pediatric angiographies, of which approximately one-third are interventional (therapeutic) procedures. Interventional cardiology methods play an increasing role in the treatment of congenital heart diseases. Many valve or vessel stenoses can now be treated without the need for surgery in the angio-laboratory. Moreover, some vascular openings and intracardiac defects can be closed without surgery. Patients treated with interventional cardiology methods avoid surgical risks, experience shorter hospital stays, and are discharged without surgical scars.
Therapeutic procedures performed in our hospital include the correction of heart valve and vessel stenoses and the closure of defects between the heart and the exiting vessels. In addition, critical newborns with complex heart diseases in the pediatric intensive care unit receive urgent cardiac evaluation and, if necessary, emergency interventions during angiocardiac examinations. For patients admitted for surgery, detailed cardiac evaluations are performed before the operation, and interventional procedures are applied during the catheterization as needed to improve the success of the surgery and determine its course. Cardiac evaluations with echocardiography are performed on patients during and after surgery.
The Pediatric Cardiology Clinic offers both outpatient and inpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including 2D and 3D echocardiography, transesophageal and stress echocardiography, 24-hour Holter monitoring, exercise electrocardiography, and computed tomography (CT). The clinic has experienced teams of pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and anesthesiologists with access to the latest technological facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart diseases.
